๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Prerequisites Before Setup โ€‹

Before you can start running your weekly lotto draws through Klubfunder, there are a few key steps you need to complete. These ensure your lotto is legally compliant, securely set up, and ready to start generating funds for your club or organisation.

โœ… What You Need Before Getting Started โ€‹

Make sure you have the following in place before setting up your first lotto:

1. A Valid Lotto License โ€‹

๐Ÿ’ก All clubs must be licensed by their local council or district authority to legally operate a fundraising lotto.

Depending on your location, the process for applying is slightly different:

๐Ÿ“ Northern Ireland โ€‹

In Northern Ireland, you must apply for a Small Society Lottery Registration with your local council.

Key Points:

  • Registration is required under the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (NI) Order 1985
  • Must be for a charitable, sporting or community purpose
  • A club treasurer or secretary usually completes the form
  • Many councils issue a 12-month license for a small fee (typically ยฃ35โ€“ยฃ50)

Steps:

  1. Visit your local council website
  2. Search for โ€œSmall Society Lottery Registrationโ€
  3. Download the application form or complete it online
  4. Submit it to the council with any fee
  5. Once approved, you'll receive a certificate or reference number

๐Ÿ“„ Youโ€™ll need to upload this license or certificate during the setup process in Klubfunder.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช Republic of Ireland โ€‹

In the Republic of Ireland, clubs must comply with the Gaming and Lotteries (Amendment) Act 2019.

There are two common routes:

  • Permit (if total prize fund is under โ‚ฌ5,000 per week)
  • Licence (for larger draws)

Key Points:

  • Applications go through your local Garda Superintendent
  • You must apply at least 60 days before your first draw
  • Permit is more suitable for small, weekly club lottos

Steps for Permit:

  1. Download Form G.L.1 from gov.ie
  2. Submit the form to your local Garda Station
  3. Pay the relevant fee (typically โ‚ฌ10โ€“โ‚ฌ20 for a permit)
  4. Wait for approval (they will provide written confirmation)

๐Ÿ“„ You will also need to upload this documentation in Klubfunder to activate the Lotto area.

2. A Stripe Payment Account โ€‹

Klubfunder uses Stripe to handle all lotto payments securely.

  • If you donโ€™t have a Stripe account yet, youโ€™ll be prompted to create one during the setup
  • You can also connect an existing Stripe account that your club uses for other Klubfunder services
  • Funds from lotto entries will be paid directly into this account

For more details on how to set up or connect your existing Stripe account, you can find guide here:
